"Wings of Darkness" Lyrics

This alt country song is a contemporary version of the Conjure man/HooDoo man evoked in many blues songs. Muddy Water's "Mojo Man" and "Hoochie Coochie Man" as well as Mississippi John Hurt's "Candyman" are all invoked in this Character. It also has ancestry in Kris Kristofferson's "Pilgrim" as well as Steve Millers "Space Cowboy" and his later song "The Joker."
But There are a number of other influences as well:
Alfred Bester’s “The Pi Man”, Damon Knight’s “What Rough Beast” and the imagery from Clint Eastwood’s “Pale Rider” as well as the comic book/ movie anti-heroes from The Crow, The Punisher, The Renegade and even “Ghost Rider”.In this song a possibly dark character on an endless journey down the two lane, black top highways of America (who may also may be dispensing some form of cosmic balance?) considers loneliness after finding a woman, who may be the queen of darkness (or is it the queen of hearts?) and asks her to accompany him on his journey. This composite character graces the album cover.
