Dancing With Armageddon Lyrics
Alt Country, Country Rock Music, Alt Rock and Folk /Celtic Rock
I wrote this song during the first gulf war and it sadly turned out to be prophetic for the second one. I thought it might be important to state the origins of my own pro-peace sentiments.
As a medic in a US Army field surgical hospital in 1970, I was part of a mercy mission to Jordan during a cease fire in the Black September War. We treated hundreds of trauma victims of the conflict, nearly all civilians, men, women, children, and elderly people caught in the cross fire. Collateral damage as they say these days.
Very few people have the opportunity to experience first hand what it's like to deal with mass civilian trauma environments except for the Red Cross, rescue workers during earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, terror attacks, all primarily civil authorities after any disaster.
That said, in an armed conflict where people had not been treated for injuries for more than ten days, trying to treat mass multiple traumas can leave a lasting impression of the horror, suffering and ultimate futility of such conflicts.
Dancing With Armageddon Dagon lifts his head , we all do what the president said send the soldiers to the sand If they live to be older they’ll understand Chorus We’re living in the belly of the beast Watching while it takes its feast Looking for a storm in the middle east And dancing with Armageddon dancing with Armageddon
“What rough beast its hour come round Slouches towards Bethlehem town?” I never thought the time had come and gone The bombs would be falling on Babylon Never thought I’d live to see The missiles falling on Tel Aviv
We’re living in the belly of the beast Watching while it takes its feast Looking for a storm in the middle east And dancing with Armageddon dancing with Armageddon
Who’ll call out at last when the walls all fall and the trumpets blast Who at last will raise their hands and say “Please tell me I don’t understand” “Cry Havoc loose the dogs of war!" Well I for one don’t want it any more Hear the cry from my lips I don’t want to start the Apocalypse
We’re living in the belly of the beast Watching while it takes its feast Looking for a storm in the middle east And dancing with Armageddon dancing with Armageddon
