Dream

Reviews Of "On the Edge of Time"
This song grew initially from a simple chord progression that to me evokes an emotional state not unlike that which frequently follows a dream experience which leaves a deep impact upon the dreamer long after waking. It develops from a deja vu' recognition of an ideal woman to a revelation of an Eden like paradise in which all living creatures seem to exist in harmony. At the critical juncture in which the dreamer states "If this is not heaven I don't know where I am", his spirit guide, the beautiful woman, tells him this place is "really all around" and is in fact the earth itself, "If we lay the troubles down". The "troubles" and the reference to standing stones earlier indicate Celtic overtones that may seem specific to Northern Ireland, but in reality relate to all the tribal hatreds which drive conflicts the world over. The dreamer's resolve to remake the waking world of every day life into the dream paradise he has witnessed may seem an overwhelming, if not impossible task, but I can think of no grail quest more worthy of the effort.
Dream
Don't I know you, Don't I know your face? Don't I know you, lovely, full of grace?
You were in my dream last night , I'd know you anywhere,
You were in my dream last night, can you tell me how to get there?
A place so high it seems above this world
columns of marble standing stones and light around you girl
you were dressed in silken white with flowers in your hair,
then you turned to my delight and showed the fields of Eden there...
Clouds like blossoms, windows to the sky we lay beside a sparkling brook
touched hands you and I I saw the birds and beasts there,
saw the lion and the lambI said "if this is not heaven I don't where I am."
You said "This place you see is really all around,
this is the place the world could be if we laid the troubles down."
And then I turned to look at you, I found I was awake
I said "If that's the way the world can be,
that's the world I'll make, that's the world I'll make...
